Marie Pie's Story

Before receiving her first microloan, Maria Pie sold gum, candies and trinkets door to door in her community of Los Calcarizzos in the Dominican Republic. Carrying her merchandise in a little blue box, Maria knew she was limited as to what she could earn to support her family without a microloan. Her goal was to obtain a microloan that would provide her an opportunity to achieve financial stability and one day offer her the opportunity to own a store.

After joining the microloan group that is part of the “Bank of Hope”, Maria received and repaid several loans, building her confidence and business acumen along the way.

Today, Maria is the successful business owner of a community store. And in her store, she proudly to displays her old blue box as a testament to how microfinancing has changed her life.
